Lynn and I took a trip to Santa Cruz and Monterey on her birthday weekend. First, we went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, then the Sea Otter Classic (some shots here), then wrapped up with a day otter spotting at the Elkhorn Slough.
We got to see a lot of otters, birds, harbor seals, sea lions, and even jellies at the Slough.
Sea Otter Wrestling! We saw a lot of playful behavior at the Elkhorn Slough.
Spotted these velella velella jellies, closely related to Portuguese Man of War jellies, in the slough. We’d been seeing these washed up in Point Reyes recently too. They, like the Man of War, use sails to catch the wind.
